fancy embroidery

I've been practicing some fancy embroidery techniques (for a big project coming up!) It's always fun to try something new!

cross stitch...sort of a freehand counted. It's a bit of a challenge to keep all the Xs the same size without aida cloth or a pattern, but I like how it looks on patterned fabric.

cross stitch

shisha... attaching small mirrors, coins, etc. I used some large sequins.

cutwork... stitching a buttonhole around the edge of a shape cut out of the fabric.

have you tried any of these before?

  1. Cut work scares me!

I do love shisha, and especially your extra additions around the sequins. So pretty!

  3. Have you ever heard of waste canvas? It helps you to do cross stitch on fabric that doesn't have a weave. Here's a link to info about it. Maybe it will make these kind of projects a little easier.

  4. Pretty! I like the little birds. I have been doing cross stitch on regular fabric a lot lately, but I always use waste canvas. Doing it free hand sounds scary!
