Felt Lanterns pattern

I've created a new pattern for you and it's available in my etsy shop today!
These pretty hanging lanterns are completely hand sewn from felt. This pattern is a bit more advanced than my other ones, but the instructions are easy to follow. If you really like hand sewing like I do, or don't have a machine, this pattern is for you. These lanterns make perfect decorations for parties or every day, and great gifts as well.

This pattern will give you instructions to make the two lanterns pictured, one round style and one box style, which is hollow and collapsible just like a real paper lantern.

I hope you like this pattern, I had fun making them myself! If you stitch these up, please post your photos in the Doodle Stitching flickr group, I'd love to see them. And keep an eye out for my next Doodle Stitching book coming out in October! It's full of lots more cute sewing projects and tons of patterns.

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. Miss Ray, You have a wonderful blog! Thank you for your tutorial on crayon tinting. I would very much like to know how you make your patterns. How you go from the initial Idea to getting them into a PDF? Do you use a scanner or do you create them on computer directly with a drawing program?

  2. thank you both!
hancock: I typically make the object first and then create the pattern off of it. I measure all the parts and then draw them in Illustrator, or if it's particularly detailed like embroidery patterns, I will scan it in and trace it.

  3. I saw your book in Michaels months ago and bought it on the spot, I love it and have used your ideas and stitch designs on everything I can poke a needle through. Most all my crafts are in felt so my friend saw these lanterns and sent me the link… well without even thinking about it I was on your Etsy throwing your felt fish and the lanterns in my shopping cart when I noticed that you’re the author of Doodle Stitching. I am very happy to have the chance to tell you your book and designs are Brilliant and I’m excited to make Lanterns. Thanks!
