painting NŌMs

NŌMs are made from paperclay, an air drying, paper based clay, and the only clay I know of that takes watercolors, which I love! It's like painting on 3-D paper. This gives NŌMs a unique look. I would love to sometime make them from ceramic clay with glazes! Well, that will happen one day when we set up our pottery studio and get a kiln. (one of the many creative dreams for our future. ;)
Keep an eye out for these new guys!

Oh my goodness, how COOL! I have never heard of anything like that. I love it!
ReplyDeleteCool, I always wondered what you made those out of, since they didn't *quite* look like sculpey. Thanks for solving the mystery! I also like the fact that you use watercolors... it does make for a unique look.
ReplyDeletethank you! I have lots of fun working on these little guys. :D Definitely check out paperclay if you get a chance, it's unique!
ReplyDeleteWow... .I love your stuff how wonderful!!! Found you from The Owl Barn. You have a new follower.
ReplyDeleteHow do you get them so shiny? I've done a lot of work with paperclay but always in matte finish. I've just never gotten around to finding a sealant that would work. Also wondering what brand watercolors you use! The colors are much more vibrant then my el-cheapos! Would love to hear what you use! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :) I coat them with an acrylic varnish when I'm done painting them. It gives them a little shine and helps protect them. :) I use mostly Winsor and Newton watercolors and gouache paints.
ReplyDeleteAdorable! ^_^
ReplyDeletebut how do you use acrylic varnish on watercolors? Doesn't applying it make the colors run? O_o
I haven't had a problem with varnish, I just let the watercolors dry completely and apply it lightly with a soft brush. :)
