Friday funspiration: Crewel

green crewel blanket

I recently won this vintage crewel throw blanket from ebay, and I've been working on a crewel embroidery project for my next book, so I made today's inspiration mosaic from crewelwork!

Crewel embroidery

Crewel is traditionally stitched with wool thread on linen fabric. It has a great, puffy, 3 dimensional look to it! not to mention lots of fun, vintagey patterns available out there. :) I've only recently started working in crewel myself and I really like it. If you're interested in trying it out, I highly recommend Katherine Shaughnessy's book, The New Crewel. Also check out her website: www.woolandhoop.com There are also lots of vintage crewel kits and patterns on ebay and etsy.

  2. Just stumbled over your NOMs on Etsy, and thus made it to your blog. So excited to hear you're working on a Crewel book!

Funny, I just posted your NOM pictures on my blog, and I come here and see you have an image of my Daisychain Crewel sampler in your flickr mosaic. The internet is so huge, yet such a small world!
